Company Section Ski Trip
2002
Company Section Winter Camp- 1st Alloway
teamed up with Active Outdoor Pursuits to provide an active skiing
and leadership training weekend in Aviemore. We booked the 'Lairds
Bothy', Kingussie, which allowed us to ski at Cairngorm. Although
there was not as much snow as in previous years, a great time
was enjoyed by everyone who attended. We returned to Alloway with
no accident victims however everybody was completed exhausted
if not from the skiing then the lack of sleep.
2001 Queen's
Badge Awards
Friends and relatives attended the presentation
of the Queen's Badge Awards to Colin Johnston and Gordon Maxwell
both members of the Company Section. The event took place at Alloway
Parish Church on Sunday 20th May 2001.
This is the highest award that can
be achieved by any boy in the Boys' Brigade and we were delighted
to have Major Richard Henderson the Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire
and Mrs Henderson to present the awards.
Company Section Ski Trip 2001
The Company Section ski trip took place over
the weekend of the 9th to 11th February 2001. As in previous year's,
we headed for Aviemore. Unfortunately due to very heavy snow falls
and severe drifting we could not ski at Cairngorm, but we managed
to get excellent skiing at the Lecht and at Glencoe. A brilliant
time was had by all.
Straiton Bombarded By A Bustle
Of Boys
Friday 4th August 2000
.Location: Straiton,
South Ayrshire.
All was serene in the rural village of Straiton until 20 youths
from 1st Alloway Boys' Brigade descended for their Summer Camp 2000.
If only the boys where conscious of the arduous tasks they would
be asked to complete. The aim of the exercise was to encourage comradeship,
physical endurance, mental stimulation and fun amongst the boys
by completing a variety of tasks with some extremely taxing problems.
Unfortunately the weather did not turn out to be in our favour,
with the cloud falling while on the peak of Craigengower and the
slight drizzle during the strike of the camp, however the spirits
of the boys where not hampered.
Somehow we managed to return all boys to their comfortable plush,
humble Alloway homes, intact, with a rucksack overflowing with torn
sweaty and wet clothing and with the everlasting memories of the
Summer Camp 2000 in the idyllic location of Straiton. What boy would
be able to forget the torture of the Craigengower log run, abseiling,
gorge ascent and camp food!
The staff and boys would like to express their gratitude to the
following parties for their support which ensured the success of
this year's camp. Mr James Hunter Blair and Mr A. Paton- Property
accessibility, Mr T. McMillan-Logistics, the McCanlish Hall Committee
and the people of Straiton for their tolerance.
Beware
.
we will be back!
